District Governors Visit to Bushenyi Lions Club

Lions Club of Bushenyi hosted the District Governor on 20th Oct.2012. In attendance were 14 lions of Bushenyi, Cabinet members of District 411B Sub-Treasurer, Assistant Cabinet Secretary, Cabinet Secretary, Wife to the Governor. 

In attendance were The Regional Chairperson, Lions from Norway led by Lion Christopher Knag. 

The meeting started with visits to projects of Bushenyi, later a meeting that finally resolved the disputed land of Kabagarame between Silent Voices and Lions Club of Bushenyi.

MEDINA ORPHANAGE RECEIVES DOUBLE BEDS FROM PWANI CLUB

Lions Club of DSM visited Medina Orphanage – their Signature Project at Vikawe on 4th November to handover 6 sets of Double-Beds provided by Lion Murtaza Bodalbhai and donated food items like Biscuits, Water, Cakes, Juice and Snacks to the orphans.

President Lion Rafiq Ghartey said in his speech that Lions Club of DSM Pwani had recognized Medina Orphanage as its Signature Project and towards this end, it has brought this assistance. He thanked all donors for success of this activity.

RC Lion Rizwan Qadri expressed his appreciation over what Pwani Club had done for the orphanage and mentioned that the children needed help so that they become better citizens. “We need to ensure that they are well fed, clothed and educated as of now they already have a roof over their head,” said Lion Rizwan. 

Bi Kulthum, the Matron, welcomed and thanked the Lions of Pwani for providing Beds and the children were very happy. She was overwhelmed by the continual support that the club has been providing to make the Orphanage self-sustaining.

The Local Government District Chairman Mr. Josephat Mkombachepa said in his speech that Lions have done great things in Vikawe. The fact of adopting an Orphanage has become part of Vikawe history. He thanked the Lions for donating Beds to the Orphans and mentioned that Vikawe Authority will contribute TShs 200,000 for the Orphanage and they requested a joint effort in enabling availability of water in the area.

Arusha Club Walks to raise funds for Orphans

Lions Club of Arusha record a success of 10 km. Charity Walk held on 7th October 2012 in Arusha in favour of Orphan Children and Road Safety week. 

24 Lion Members and 68 guests took part in the Charity Walk. Honorable D.C. Mr. Kasunga of Manduli was the Chief Guest and walked all the way with us to raise the funds.

10 Children from Kibowa Orphanage also participated in the Charity Walk. Appreciation Certificates were also given to the people who participated in the walk.
Tshs. 12,875,000.00 funds was raised during this Charity Walk.

SUPERSTORM SANDY - We believe that "In A World of Service," one person can make a difference, but together we can have an even greater impact.

Dear Lions,
Earlier this week as Superstorm Sandy was near landfall on the East Coast, we let you know that Lions would be there for those in the storm's path. We know the devastating impact that a disaster can have in a community and as always, our thoughts and prayers are with those who were affected, including members of our own Lions family. As Lions, we have once again demonstrated our quick response in the time of need, and we want to update you on relief efforts.  

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) awarded a US$100,000 Major Catastrophe Grant with money from the disaster relief fund, allowing Lions in affected areas to immediately begin providing assistance. Many Lions are already working with local food banks, police and fire departments and other local organizations.

In addition to the Major Catastrophe Grant, LCIF has awarded US$100,000 in emergency grants to Lions districts in North Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut and New York. LCIF was able to award these funds from the disaster relief fund, thanks to Lions who generously donated knowing that in times of disaster there is an urgent and great need.

LCIF is expecting and is ready for many more emergency grant requests as Lions assess the needs of their communities and power is restored.  We also encourage Lions to consider making a donation to the Foundation for disaster relief. Donations to the disaster relief fund are Melvin Jones Fellowship eligible.

LION SHANTI TEES A WAY TO COLLECT FUNDS

I have to advise you that our Annual Fund Raising event “PLAY FOR SIGHT” Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday 11th November which will also be a Family Day. We anticipate to raise above 50 million T. Shs.

3.      12.30 to 2.30 pm Lunch
4.      5 Pm Prize giving ceremony.

Pwani Club Twins with Hettstedt Club from Germany to provide White Canes to the Blind

Lions club of DSM Pwani carried out an activity at CCBRT Hospital on 6th November 2012. The activity was a result of twinning with Lions of Hettstedt Club, Germany. 7 blind adults were provided with  WHITE CANES so that could be able to be guided.

Over 40 million people in the world  are blind, and over 120 million people have significant Low Vision conditions that cannot be corrected, cured or treated by conventional refraction, medicine or surgery. This number is expected to double by the year 2020.

The twinning was carried out through effort of Convenor Lion Zahira and  Lion Sebastian Bartsch.

CCBRT expressed their appreciations and confirmed that all the 7 blind persons will be trained properly.

"I am humbled by the dedication and commitment of Lions as they offer great assistance to the visually handicapped," said Mr. Oscar of CCBRT.
