PWANI CLUB ADDS 3 MORE WOMEN MEMBERS TO PRONOUNCE GENDER BALANCE

Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Pwani carried out an Induction Program for its 3 prospective members. A brief orientation programme benefited 18 other Lions who attended. The Induction was carried out by RC Lion Rizwan Qadri. The activity was also attended by ZC Lion Yusuf Dalal. The 3 new members are Durdana Khan, Sahar Khan and Maria Farhan.

The Club has increased its women membership to 50% of the total indicating a well balanced gender affiliated club that not only gives platform to women but encourages family membership. The total membership now is 38.

MZIZIMA HOLDS MEGA EYE CAMP IN NACHINGWEA

Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Mzizima started it’s Mega Eye Camp on Friday 15 Mar at 7am in Nachingwea, Lindi Region. 100’s of people turned out at the camp some travelling all the way from Ndanda and Masasi for the Eye camp. 

More than 15 members of the club and Doctors left Dar es Salaam to Nachingwea by Bus on Thursday 14 March at 4am for the camp of 3 days from 15 to 17 March. On the first day at camp 56 cataracts were diagnosed for surgery. The Eye camp has been sponsored by NURDIN DOSSA & FAMILY.

KILIMANJARO NEW CENTURY CLUB GEARS UP

ACTIVITY OF PROVIDING LUNCH AND TOILETRY ITEMS TO THE BLIND AND ALBINO CHILDREN  TOOK PLACE IN MOSHI. 80 CHILDREN WERE ASSISTED AT THE  ACTIVITY THAT WAS CARRIED OUT ON 10^TH FEBRUARY 2013. ACCORDING TO CLUB PRESIDENT LION KALPIT, "MY CLUB IS DETERMINED TO ASSIST THE BLIND AND ALBINO CHILDREN FOR A SAFER AND HEALTHIER FUTURE."

ARUSHA CLUB FUND RAISING FETE DURING KITE FLYING ACTIVITY

It was a joyful day for the residents of Arusha when Lions Club of Arusha held a Kite Flying Festival on 10^th February 2013 at Sikh Union Club to raise Fund. 

The festival started at 10 am and ended at 6 pm. More than 375 men, women and children attended the festival. There were stalls of Kites & Sting, Gun Shooting, Food & Drinks, Face Painting, Jumping Castle, Artificial Jewellery & putting Henna on the Hands. 

15 lion members participated in this event during which several prizes were given to the winners. TShs. 1,350,000/- were raised at the Fete.    

PEACE POSTER - Art Contest for Kids "OUR WORLD, OUR FUTURE"

Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For 25 years, more than four million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.

The theme of the 2013-14 Peace Poster Contest is "Our World, Our Future." Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, are eligible to participate. Each year's art contest for kids consists of an original theme incorporating peace.Participants use a variety of mediums, including charcoal, crayon, pencil and paint, to express the theme. The works created are unique and express the young artists' life experiences and culture.

Twenty-four international Peace Poster entries are selected each year, representing the work of approximately 400,000 young participants worldwide. Posters are shared globally via the Internet, the media and exhibits around the world.

Each poster is judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme.

Posters advance through several judging levels: local, district, multiple district and international. At the international level, judges from the art, peace, youth, education and media communities select one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners.

International winners are notified on or before February 1.

• One international grand prize winner will receive US$5,000 and a trip to a special award ceremony with the sponsoring club president and two family members at Lions Day with the United Nations (subject to change). 

• Each of the 23 merit award winners will receive a cash award of US$500 and a certificate of achievement.

Past Peace Poster Contest grand prize winners have come from Brazil, Guadeloupe, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Martinique, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Multiple District 300 Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.

NEBRASKA STUDENT AWARDED GRAND PRIZE IN LIONS INTERNATIONAL ESSAY CONTEST

Oak Brook, Ill., USA – Maura Loberg, an 11-year-old student from Wayne, Nebraska has been named the grand prize winner of the 2012-2013 Lions International Essay Contest for visually impaired youth.

The Lions International Essay Contest, sponsored by Lions Clubs International, encourages visually impaired children ages 11-13 to express what peace means to them.  The winning entry was sponsored by the Wayne Lions Club and was announced during the “Lions Day at the United Nations” event in New York City.

Loberg’s essay was selected for her ability to convey this year’s theme, “Imagine Peace”.  Loberg wrote, “Like a puzzle, our world consists of many types of people that are separated by color, religions, money and many other reasons.  It is hard to fit together and live next to each other if not positioned the right way…My ideas to help aid world peace include better communication, more respect for each other’s differences and the opportunity to dream for a more peaceful planet.”

Loberg will receive the international grand prize award and US$5,000 for winning the competition, and will be honored at the Lions Clubs International Convention in Hamburg, Germany in July.
