LIONS OF UGANDA DONATE TO BUDUDA LANDSLIDE SURVIVORS

LCIF through Lions Clubs of Uganda donated relief items worth $5,000 to Bududa District landslide victims. The District Governor’s office, Lions Club of Kampala Host, Lions Club of Soroti, and Lions Aid Norway donated a total of USD-541. The relief items donated included 300 blankets, 400 mosquito nets; 120 tarpaulins and 50 packets of water purifying tablets to 147 people from 26 households.

DG Lion Joseph W. Kiwanuka handed over the items to Bududa district Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Mr. Ajal Allan who represented the Bududa district CAO and LCV Chairman on Friday 24th August 2012.  Lion Kiwanuka was escorted by his gracious lady Lion Edith and other Cabinet officers, Lions and Leos.

The DG distributed the items after realizing a moment of silence for the people who had passed away and re-emphasized on massive planting of the trees and sensitization of the communities living in this area.  He begged the distribution committee of the aid in Bududa to give the donations extended to the affected families.

The Governor thanked the Government of Uganda, International Red Cross Society (Uganda) and Lions of Soroti. The victims appreciated the humanitarian assistance given to them.

It was observed that the area still had persons staying at risk with 97 households comprising of 250 persons awaited relocation. Also, the road network to Bududa is very bad, muddy and therefore slippery making the journey climbing up to the mountain very tedious.
