PMCC/PDG Lion Majid Khan advises on Mzizima's Quest Endeavor

RE:  QUEST PROGRAM

DEAR LION MURTAZA,

Thank you for your e-mail and I am pleased to learn that your club has formed a QUEST PROGRAM committee to be overseered by you. I am quite optimistic that under your convenorship, you will give impetus to this crucial program.

Lions mission is to provide life skills to our youths so as to make them responsible citizens of the future and to lead a healthy drug and alcohol free life with a vision and to reinforce the positive values.

For your kind information, to–date we have managed to conduct Eight successful Quest Training Workshops in Tanzania. Namely:-

2 workshops in Dar-es-Salaam
2 workshops in Mwanza
1 workshop in Arusha
1 workshop in Moshi (Kilimanjaro)
1 workshop in Tanga
1 workshop in Morogoro

These workshops were carried out by professional Quest Program trainers from India and Kenya respectively.

To-date we have trained 240 teachers from 120 Primary and Secondary schools, including 6 Lion members from Dar-es-Salaam and Mwanza respectively.

It is our firm belief that these teachers and lions who have been trained will implement the directives given by the professional trainers in their respective schools and communities.

I am also pleased to inform you that during the course of training. The senior trainer from India also trained 2 persons from Dar-es-Salaam to train the trainers of this program. These two trainers have qualified to train the teachers in our country without the presence of trainees from outside the country in a very near future.

Regarding your intention to visit the schools, I would advise you to contact the District Convenor of the Quest Program – Lion Mohamed Mulla who will assist and guide you how to go about with this essential and sensitive program.

Apart from the Quest books which were allotted to all the participating teachers during the Quest training workshops held in the country, we have also received the Quest books for the students and parents for dissemination to those schools and parents as per District Convenor directives.

Meanwhile, should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the District Convenor Lion Mohamed Mulla and the undersigned; as we shall all be working hand in glove to make this program more effective and meaningful.

Wishing you all the best in your true endeavours to enlighten the young generation about the Quest program.

With kind regards,

LION ABDUL MAJEED KHAN

Reading Action Program Join President Madden's campaign

As part of this year’s “A World of Service” theme, International President Wayne Madden is challenging Lions to participate in the Reading Action Program to focus on increasing literacy and access to learning resources through their service.

Literacy -- the ability to read and write-- is the foundation for education and social development. Yet, hundreds of millions of adults lack minimum literacy skills and millions of school-aged children are not attending school to obtain them.

The Reading Action Program is a call to action for every Lions club around the world to organize service projects and activities that underscore the importance of reading and address specific needs related to illiteracy within their own community.

Lions Can Make a Difference

Many clubs have already taken great strides to bridge the gaps in literacy and education. The following segment of the LQ - Lions Quarterly Video Magazine shows how Tucson Downtown Lions Club of Arizona, USA, introduces reading into one of its ongoing activities. The club promotes the importance of parents and children reading together, while addressing the need for healthy vision. They donate books along with free eye exams for parents and their children.

Lions and Leos will be recognized for their accomplishments through the World of Service Awards, including awards for Best Long-Term Reading Action Program and Best Reading Action Program Rap Video.

District Dues for Lionistic Year 2012/2013

These are the guidelines for billing clubs for the current Lionistic Year.

(i) District Dues Member annual Fee :-$25
(The Mombasa Multiple District Convention unanimously passed the Annual District Dues to increase by $2 dollars each year until the final ceiling of $25; which is this year).
(ii) International Dues $41 per member. However the registered family members at Lions Clubs International have one spouse paying full amount ($41) and the rest each pays half of that amount).
(iii) Charter and new member fee $30.This is in addition to the normal member annual dues based on pro rata.
(iv) Leo Club dues per each Leo Club charged to the sponsoring club $90.
(v) The amount of dues at the club level for administrative purposes is optional and is decided by individual clubs.

I call upon the Sub Treasurers to bill the clubs accordingly.
First half payment should be effected latest September 30, 2012.
Note that those clubs with balances brought forward in excess of 90 days overdue will soon be placed in status quo with eventual closure.
Each Sub Treasurer should determine the exchange rate bearing in mind the fluctuations of the rates and the ledger fee and other related charges. In Uganda the exchange rate to be advised should be US$1 for sh.2600.
